HIGH COURT BALAPITIYA

The foundation stone for the Balapitiya High Court was laid in 1984 by Mr. Norman Waidyaratne, who was the Deputy Speaker of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka at that time.

The Court was officially declared open on 17th November 1986 by Mr. Nissanka Wijeyeratne, who was the Minister of Justice at the time.

The inaugural High Court Judge of this Court was Hon. F. N. D. Jayasuriya.

To date, 21 High Court Judges have served at this Court. At present, Hon. Ruchira Weliwatta serves as the 22nd High Court Judge of the Balapitiya High Court.
